The American Chamber of Commerce Oman (AmCham Oman) and the U.S. Embassy Muscat, representing the U.S. Department of State, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening collaboration to promote U.S. business opportunities and increase bilateral trade between the United States and the Sultanate of Oman.

The MOU reflects a shared commitment by both participants to combine efforts, resources, and ideas in pursuit of initiatives of mutual interest that support U.S. exports to Oman and deepen commercial engagement between the two countries. Through this framework for cooperation, AmCham Oman and the U.S. Embassy Muscat will explore joint activities aligned with each organization’s respective vision, mission, and program focus.

Under the agreement, the participants will seek opportunities to collaborate on initiatives that encourage market access, facilitate partnerships, and support the growth of U.S. and Omani businesses operating across both markets. The MOU underscores a common focus on practical engagement with the business community and the promotion of sustainable, mutually beneficial trade and investment relationships.

AmCham Oman works within Oman to attract and support both Omani and U.S. businesses, with the objective of enhancing bilateral commerce. The organization delivers a year-round program of business networking events designed to connect Omani and U.S. companies and foster partnerships that benefit all participants. AmCham Oman also organizes workshops, briefings, and speaking engagements to help the business community understand and respond to evolving laws, regulations, and market developments.

“This Memorandum of Understanding formalizes a strong foundation for collaboration,” said Ali Daud, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of AmCham Oman. “By working closely with the U.S. Embassy Muscat, we can support both U.S. and Omani companies with clearer pathways to market, stronger commercial connections, and more practical engagement that advances U.S.–Oman trade.”

“From the arrival of the Boston Rambler trade ship in Muscat in 1790 to the signing of the U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement in 2009, commerce has been a pillar of our partnership with Oman over centuries,” commented U.S. Ambassador to Oman Ana A. Escrogima, “Signing this MOU lets us work in lockstep with our friends at AmCham Oman to ensure that our bilateral trade is serving the best interests of American firms while also enhancing critical sectors in Oman.”

The signing of this MOU marks an important step in reinforcing the longstanding economic partnership between the United States and Oman and sets the stage for expanded cooperation in support of bilateral trade and business development.

New Name Reflects Growth, Global Alignment, and Commitment to Strengthening U.S.–Oman Business Relations

The Oman American Business Council (OABC), the official affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Oman, has officially rebranded as AmCham Oman. The new name and identity mark a significant milestone in the organization’s growth and continued mission to foster trade, investment, and partnership between the Sultanate of Oman and the United States.

The announcement was made during the Council’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner, attended by members, partners, and senior representatives from the public and private sectors. The rebrand signifies OABC’s evolution into a modern, forward-looking business platform aligned with the global AmCham (American Chamber of Commerce) network.

“As an affiliate of the United States Chamber of Commerce, AmCham Oman joins a network of over 3 million member companies worldwide,” said Ali Daud, Chairman of AmCham Oman. “This transition reflects the core of this organization—a stronger, globally recognized platform that connects the Omani and American business communities.”

Fouad Eid, VP of AmCham Oman, added: “Over the past two decades, AmCham Oman has grown into one of the most active and respected business organizations in the country. This new chapter strengthens our visibility, our partnerships, and our commitment to building bridges between Oman and the United States.”

“The name AmCham Oman immediately identifies us as part of a trusted international network of AmChams around the world, showcasing our established network and creating even more opportunities for our 300+ member companies,” said Rebecca Olson, CEO of AmCham Oman.

Why This Matters for Oman

The rebranding carries broader significance for Oman’s economy and its private sector. As part of the global AmCham network spanning over 100 countries, AmCham Oman enhances Oman’s international business visibility, positioning the Sultanate as an attractive destination for American investors and partners.

  • Increased Investment: The AmCham name provides global credibility that encourages U.S. companies to explore opportunities in Oman’s strategic sectors—from renewable energy and tourism to logistics and technology.
  • Export Growth: Through the U.S.–Oman Free Trade Agreement, AmCham Oman continues to help Omani exporters access the world’s largest consumer market, supporting diversification and non-oil growth.
  • Stronger Bilateral Ties: AmCham Oman acts as a private-sector bridge, helping both governments and businesses align priorities, resolve challenges, and accelerate partnerships that support Vision 2040 goals.
  • Knowledge and Innovation Exchange: By linking Omani entrepreneurs, SMEs, and professionals with counterparts in the U.S., AmCham fosters collaboration, training, and the transfer of global best practices.

Under its new name, AmCham Oman will continue to deliver the same high-value programs and initiatives that have defined its success—from trade and investment roundtables and SME networking exchanges to sector-focused panels and professional community groups. Members will now also benefit from enhanced visibility through the global AmCham network.

The decision to transition from OABC to AmCham Oman reflects:

  • Global Alignment: Closer affiliation with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and international AmCham network.
  • Clarity & Recognition: A name instantly understood by international investors and stakeholders.
  • Future Growth: A refreshed brand to support AmCham Oman’s expanding membership base, digital transformation, and new initiatives for 2026 and beyond.

“Our members are at the heart of this transition,” Rebecca added. “AmCham Oman continues to stand for collaboration, opportunity, and advocacy on behalf of the U.S.–Oman business community. We are proud to carry forward our mission under a name that represents both our heritage and our future.”

Muscat, Oman – The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the Oman
American Business Council (OABC) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU), marking a significant step forward in strengthening business, trade, and investment ties
between Oman and the United States.

The signing took place during a special Suhour event held at Intercity Hotel in Al Khuwair,
attended by over 200 OABC members. The evening not only included the announcement and
signing of the MOU, but also meaningful networking with a focus on giving back, as the event
spotlighted local charitable initiatives during the month of Ramadan.

The MOU outlines a framework for sustained cooperation between the two organizations, with a
focus on increased programming for U.S.–Oman collaboration. Key areas include support for
trade delegations, awareness-building around the U.S.–Oman Free Trade Agreement and EXIM
Bank financing, co-hosted high-level business roundtables, and joint promotion of opportunities
for Omani exports to the U.S. market.

His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the
Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated:

“This Memorandum of Understanding represents a significant step towards strengthening
economic and trade relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the United States.
Collaboration with the Omani American Business Center underscores the importance of
enabling Oman’s private sector to benefit from investment and trade opportunities with the U.S.
market and expand commercial partnerships.

The Chamber is committed to providing a supportive environment for business owners and,
through this partnership, aims to enhance trade exchange, empower Omani enterprises to
access new markets, and leverage shared expertise and knowledge. This will serve common
interests and contribute to sustainable economic development.”

“This MOU is not about words on paper—it’s about delivering real value,” said Ali Daud,
Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Oman American Business Council. “It reflects our
shared commitment to move beyond handshakes and headlines, and toward tangible outcomes
that benefit businesses on both sides. With OCCI as our strategic partner, we’re doubling down
on trade and investments.”

Fouad Eid, Vice President of the Oman American Business Council shared: “OABC’s mission is
to improve bilateral trade between the Sultanate of Oman and the United States. There is still so
much untapped potential in increasing Omani exports to the U.S. and attracting U.S. investment into Oman.

With this strategic cooperation, we believe that OABC and OCCI can fulfill this
mission more effectively—because we are better together.”

Rebecca Olson, CEO of the Oman American Business Council, added, “We’re proud to
formalize this partnership with OCCI at such a pivotal time for U.S.–Oman relations. This
collaboration amplifies the strengths of both organizations and allows us to support our
members in a deeper, more strategic way. Together, we’re building a stronger foundation for the
future of business between our two nations.”

2040 and in leveraging the U.S.–Oman Free Trade Agreement to unlock new growth and
investment opportunities.
