The Trade & Investment Department at AmCham Oman oversees the formation of the company through all stages on your behalf, including registration, licensing, tax setup, and investor visas. This is coordinated through a detailed understanding of how the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the Tax Authority, and immigration authorities operate, to ensure that your company's journey with us runs as efficiently as possible.

Our Role

01 Company Formation & Registration

SCOPE — Management of the core legal steps necessary to establish your company as a registered Omani entity.

DETAILS — This is aimed at foreign and Omani investors starting a new company, and existing companies adding a new Omani entity or branch. Following a company establishment study conducted with the relevant government authority, we begin Commercial Registration (CR) with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. This includes trade name reservation, as well as guidance on suitable Arabic and English naming options. Additionally, AmCham Oman will lead the explanation and layout of foreign ownership structuring, including 100% foreign ownership routes available under the U.S.–Oman FTA. Following this, we will determine the correct company grade (Excellent, First, Second, Third, or Fourth) for your capital and business profile.

02 Licensing & Municipal Registration

SCOPE — Securing the activity-specific license and municipal registrations your business needs before it can legally operate.

DETAILS — This applies to newly formed companies, and existing companies adding a new licensed activity. This includes activity license processing, tailored to your specific business activity, office municipality registration, and virtual office space setup where your activity qualifies. This does not apply to sensitive goods such as medical or flammable products.

03 Tax & VAT Registration

SCOPE — Getting your company registered with Oman's Tax Authority from the outset.

DETAILS — This is for newly registered companies opening their first tax file, and companies formalizing VAT registration. It includes tax card issuance and VAT certificate registration where your business is VAT-eligible.

04 Investor Visa & Residency Processing

SCOPE — Coordination of the visas and residency documentation an investor and their family need to live and work in Oman.

DETAILS — This applies to foreign investors relocating to Oman, and their accompanying family members. The documents covered under this processing include:

  • Investor residence visa clearance.

  • Resident ID card issuance.

  • Residence visa medical coordination.

  • Family joining visas for accompanying dependents.

  • Guidance on extended visa validity options where available.

05 Post-Setup Business Support

SCOPE — Optional, as-needed support for the practical questions that come up once your company has launched.

DETAILS — This is for newly established companies navigating early operational and visa-related queries, and includes dedicated support for visa-related queries, whenever required.

06 CR Management (Annual Retainer)

SCOPE — An annual retainer under which AmCham Oman manages your Commercial Registration and related compliance obligations.

DETAILS — This is for established companies that prefer to hand off ongoing CR and compliance administration rather than track renewals and obligations internally. This entails:

  •  Ongoing compliance oversight across your registration obligations.

  • A single point of contact at AmCham Oman for CR-related matters throughout the year.

  • Monitoring of CR, license, and registration expiry dates.

  • Coordination of CR renewals with the relevant authorities.

How to Maintain Compliance Following the Setup Process

Annual Corporate Tax

Filed annually by an auditor registered with the Tax Authority.

VAT Filing

Where your product or service is VAT-eligible, returns are filed quarterly through the Tax Authority portal or a registered auditor.

Corporate Banking

Local banks set their own minimum-balance and account terms for corporate holders.

Support for every company grade. Omani company registration is graded into five tiers, Excellent, First, Second, Third, and Fourth, each with its own capital and procedural requirements. We assess which grade fits your business and manage the process accordingly.
